Teaching

Dr. Tianyu Tina Deng is a dedicated piano teacher with more than 10 years of experience, guiding students of all ages and levels toward their musical goals. Since beginning her teaching career in 2015, she has nurtured students who have achieved outstanding results in ABRSM exams, local and international competitions, and conservatory auditions.

Her students have been recognized with prizes at the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association (香港校际音乐节), Zhongsin International Music Competition, Hong Kong International Music and Arts Competitions, and the Golden Classical Music Awards. They have also performed in recitals and at distinguished venues including the Marc A. Scorca Hall at the National Opera Center, Museum of Chinese in America and the world-renowned Carnegie Hall.

Beyond private teaching, Tianyu served for two years as a Teaching Assistant at the Manhattan School of Music, where she taught both group piano and individual lessons to undergraduate and graduate students. She also has extensive experience teaching adult learners, providing a supportive and encouraging environment for those beginning—or returning to—the piano later in life.

Her teaching philosophy emphasizes musicianship, technique, and creative expression, while fostering discipline and joy in music-making. Whether preparing for exams, competitions, or learning for personal enrichment, Tianyu tailors her approach to each student’s unique strengths and aspirations.

Lessons are available at Tianyu’s West 110th Street studio (convenient to the C, B, and 1 trains), with Saturday teaching on the Upper East Side. Reach out anytime for more information or to schedule a lesson.
